Tomatoes!

It has been a long time coming.  We're about a month or more behind where we were last year, but we finally harvested our first ripe tomatoes yesterday! There were about 7 or 8 beautiful red tomatoes, totaling 1.4 pounds, and there are loads more that should be ripe in about a week.  We're hoping to make this year's first batch of homemade Penne all'Arrabbiata before Labor Day.  We just harvested all of our garlic, too - just in time!

  1. Hey Sassy Gardener, thought of you yesterday when I got to try Mouse Melon for the first time at the Union Square Farmer's Market. They're so cute and lemony and addictive--and expensive at $4.50 (or so) a QUARTER pound. Now, I wish I would have planted the seeds you sent. Guess it's too late in the season to try to grow them on the windowsill??? Hope all is well! Rachel

  2. Hi Rachel!
Yum - glad you got to try the mouse melon! Tragically, I didn't grow any this year either! I wouldn't try them on the windowsill at this point, but if you keep the seeds in a cool dry place they will probably be viable next year. : )
All is well here, thanks! We're busily preparing for our impending parenthood. Hope all is well with you!
